Victim Services

Victim Services Workers assist survivors with non-clinical issues regarding sexual abuse. They are trained to provide justice system information, support, liaison with justice system personnel, and court accompaniment, to male survivors who wish to explore avenues of justice.

Victim Services Workers may provide information about making a police report,  taking legal action in criminal cases, referral to a lawyer for civil cases, and exploring compensation options.

For those who qualify, funding may be available through:

  • the provincial government where the abuse occurred.  Most provinces have a Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP), each with its own qualifying criteria.  Our Victim Services Workers are available to help you apply.
  • in BC by the Residential Historical Abuse Program (RHAP) which is administered by the regional Health Authority where the survivor now resides.  Our Victim Services Workers are available to help you apply.
  • the survivor’s (or spouse’s) EAP or extended health coverage. Note that these plans will typically only support psychologists or social workers – the Society’s therapists are Clinical Counsellors.  As each employer’s plan is unique, it is up to the employee to verify their ability to submit claims to their plan.

Our Victim Services Workers are available Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at our Vancouver office. A Surrey Victim Services Worker is available every Monday and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

For any further questions or to schedule an appointment with a Victim Service Worker in your area, please feel free to contact us.
